Why would you become a fan of a sports team?

I know absolutely nothing about sports, so I apologize if this is a stupid question.

I was just wondering, why would you become a fan of a certain sports team? I can understand cheering for your state’s team or your college’s team, but why would you be a fan of a different team? Other than skill, what makes one team any better than another team? Is it the personalities of the players? Is it how physically attractive they are? Is it how much their colors appeal to you?

You have to always do things to support that team. I personally like th arizona wildcats. My avatar has a wildcat shirt, and if people say go ASU, i say go UofA! You have to absorb yourself in the team.

I have been a fan of many sports, but never of teams. Of course I’m pleased when the Sea Dogs win!

Typically a player(s) or a coach will appeal. Home teams are fun to support. Some people associate a team with a good experience in a city or area. Some folks buy the brand that a specific team is trying to portray: for example the Oakland Raiders have cultivated a much different public personality than the SF 49′ers even though they operate in roughly the same geography.

In the end, it’s usually because it’s fun and social and something people enjoy talking about… over and over and over again;-)
