You may still take out loans if you wish to though. You get free transportation to and from games. Most importantly you get a lot of self discipline, learn to work hard, and how to be part of a team. I am a former college athlete. Some of it is under-the-table stuff – payments, women, drugs. The University of Colorado had a special slush fund that involved escort services and a liquor store.
