There is scarcely any information online about a “Recreation Specialist-Youth Sports,” position?

Is there another job title very similar to this title that I can use to look up? Any ideas will be quite helpful.

Child development programs, Ymca, Boys Girls club, summer camps, sports training facilities, Youth Sports programs ie little league, soccer etc.

Good Luck!

What do you see as the pupose of youth sports?

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2010 and filed under youth sports | 12 Comments »

Purpose. What kind of dumb program doesn’t let you fix typos.

For my kids to be part of a team and learn to work together, for them to stay active, to have another outlet for building social relationships and make new friends, to learn some skills and learn to improve on them, to have fun while doing all that.

For me it’s not about teaching them some life lesson of sometimes you get picked and sometimes you don’t. They have plenty of chances to learn that such as in gym class when they might be the last guy picked. It’s also not about learning sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t, they learn that by playing board games at age 3 and 4. Our motto is "if you had fun, you won" I think too many kids are stressed out these days about winning and they have lost sight of the real meaning of sports. I know kids on my son’s team who half the time aren’t paying attention because they are too busy looking over at the score board. When kids are young and they lose, the lesson shouldn’t be "well try harder and maybe you will win next time" the lesson should be "winning isn’t everything, you should do your best and have fun" if you did that, then you did win in another way.

What is a range of negotiable percentages for kickbacks for youth team sports photos?

Posted by admin on May 12th, 2010 and filed under youth sports | 1 Comment »

I will be taking the team and individual photos for a youth indoor football league this summer. There will be approximately 500 kids. This league is a club league and is not associated with the schools. I have worked with these guys in the past doing informal work and they have verbally committed to me that I am their photographer. I have a meeting with the administrators this week and will be negotiating a kickback percentage for the league. What is standard? Whats the max? I was going to offer 7.5%.

If 7.5 is good for you, that’s what it is. If they want more raise your rates.

Should youth sports organizations regulate parental and spectator behavior?

Posted by admin on May 5th, 2010 and filed under youth sports | 3 Comments »

Should the fans be allowed to cripple the efforts of the coach who has worked all season to build a team that supports each other?

The answer, I think, is this: Should they have to? No. Should the parents and spectators be able to regulate themselve in a proper manner? Yes. Should the leagues start regulating? Yes, if they have to. I hate the idea of the leagues getting that envolved, but part of their duty is to the child. If the parents and/or spectators are creating a hostile or bad environment for the children, then the leagues have to put their foot down. I hate to pawn it off on them, but there may be no other choice.
When they sign up, the parents should be given a set of guidelines that they have to recognize and sign, then if they break those, the leagues will have the option to ask them to leave the games. The problem that I forsee with this is that if the parent is out of line and is asked to leave, the team may suffer and the child may suffer because the parent may take it out on them.

Overall, it is a fine line and people need to learn how to behave themselves in a civil and fun manner.
